Thank you so much for all the Birthday wishes! I am so lucky to have such kind, caring and sweet students. I feel very blessed and have had a lovely Birthday! Thank you, Love Mrs. P!

We will be visiting Baldwin House on Wednesday, May 8th to share poems and read our favorite stories with the residents. We will depart at 9:45am and arrive back at 11:30am
Please return the permission slip for the Reading to Senior Citizens trip by April 25th.
Dear Parkin Parents - We are looking for parent drivers who can help transport the students for the reading trip. Please let Mrs. Parkin or Mrs. Rifkin know if you are able to drive.

Today is the Last call for NEW TOYS NEEDED!
The Spirit Committee wants to remind everyone about the donation drive going on right now at BCS. Please donate new toys to the Toys Are Good Medicine Drive for The Children's Hospital of Detroit. Any new toys are needed to help spread joy to the sick kids there, from infant through school-age to teen toys. See the list on any one of the fliers around the school. Please bring them in to the bins by the office by Friday!

2013 BCS Poetry Slam!
When?  Monday April 29 2013.
Where? The Media center (during the last 20 min of lunch period)
How?  Participants register online by Friday, April 26.

Here is what we have for you today:
Language Arts: Read after school each day!
20 minutes (3rd grd)
30 minutes (4th grd)
Raz-Kids reading can be used for this time. Raz-Kids teacher username is lparkina

Character Ed: Using Glogster.edu or PowerPoint create a Responsibility poster - due 4/29
Create a poster showing how you and your classmates should display/show the trait of Responsibility that we have discussed in class during ‘huddle time’ Embed or upload the file to your Goal setting wiki page (in your student portfolio.)
Login with your username (first initial, last name, bcs) –e.g lparkinbcs
Password is the same as your IXL password

Paragraph practice:  Substitute Teachers paragraph practice is due 4/29
Progress Check – You should have completed the brainstorm. Now begin the first draft (over the weekend)

Spelling: The next spelling home work and test date is 4/22/13
Spellingcity directions:
Login with your school username and password.
Do not click “Hide my password”
Click on teacher’s homepage and read the intro. from Mrs. P.
Scroll to bottom of page to locate your spelling list code. Click on your code.
Click Games and Complete 5 mandatory game activities and 2 optional activities from the list on your spelling letter. Check off the activities as you complete them.
Make sure you use all the words in your spelling list when you play each game. The games will not register if you do not use all your spelling words.
Turn in the spelling letter by the due date. Don’t forget -You will need your ear buds or headphones for testing in class.

3rd Grade Math:

Fact Practice – 5 mins each night.
Thatquiz .org – Division 8 due 4/23
An email with links of overdue quizzes has been sent to your school email address
Check that you do not have overdue quizzes. Division 3s, Division 4s, Division 6s, Division 7 are now ALL Overdue  
IXL - 15 mins each week by Sunday. Click on 3rd grade Geometry Section. If this section is complete (to Mastery level) free choice in any section

Electronic Math
-To get to thatquiz.org click on the link under the Math link (right hand side of blog)
-Click on your name
-Type in your school password (no username needed)
-Position one hand over the numbers on your keyboard and the other hand to click Enter or Submit with the mouse.
You can set up your own practice quizzes on thatquiz.org. You do not log in to set up practice quizzes. Just click the area you would like to study. Click on the no. of question, the level, the timing settings you want to test, and click create

4th Grade Math:
No SL  J.pg for Unit 9
Reviews for Unit 9 was due today 4/19 Study over the weekend

Scholastic Book Club ordering. It’s so easy! Click on the link in the Lang. Arts section (right hand side) Set up your own parent username and password and type in the following code for Parkin’s class: GKQKW

The 2012-2013 BCS Yearbook
Did you know…YOU can submit photographs for the yearbook!?  Go to www.replayit.com and register for free with your own unique user id and password.  Choose Birmingham Covington School and upload your photographs!  It's that easy!  There is even a free iPhone app that sends photos from your iPhone!  The Yearbook team would greatly appreciate any pictures you and your parents think are appropriate to include in the yearbook!
