“The power of one should never be underestimated. We all have a part in spreading kindness and stopping bullying in our school. Together we can help make BCS an even Better Place to Be!
This Friday we are asking all our BCS students to wear school colors (Black and Gold/Yellow) to show our school solidarity. We will be taking a pledge to act against bullying at noon.

Subjects taught today:
Language Arts – Readers workshop
Math – Unit 9 Intro
Co curricular class: Engage and Spanish
Social Studies – The Southwest
Science – Electricity

We will be visiting Baldwin House on Wednesday, May 8th to share poems and read our favorite stories with the residents. We will depart at 9:45am and arrive back at 11:30am
The driver chaperones for this trip are: Mrs. Gusho, Mrs. Beard, Mrs. Deighan, Mrs. Mays, Mrs. Forge, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Baran
On Standby: Mrs. Zammit and Mrs. Glime

Here is what we have for you today:
Language Arts: Read after school each day!
20 minutes (3rd grd)
30 minutes (4th grd)
Raz-Kids reading can be used for this time. Raz-Kids teacher username is lparkina

Character Ed: Using Glogster.edu or PowerPoint create a Responsibility poster - due 4/29
Create a poster showing how you and your classmates should display/show the trait of Responsibility that we have discussed in class during ‘huddle time’ Embed or upload the file to your Goal setting wiki page (in your student portfolio.)
Login with your username (first initial, last name, bcs) –e.g. lparkinbcs
Password is the same as your IXL password

3rd Grade Math:
H.L. 9.1 Mathbox 9.1 (All journal pages for unit 8 should be complete)
Fact Practice – 5 mins each night
Thatquiz .org –Fraction identification due Friday 5/3
An email with links of overdue quizzes has been sent to your school email address
Check that you do not have overdue quizzes. Division 3-9 are now ALL Overdue  
IXL - 15 mins each week by Sunday. Click on 3rd grade Fractions Section. If this section is complete (to Mastery level) free choice in any section

Electronic Math
-To get to thatquiz.org click on the link under the Math link (right hand side of blog)
-Click on your name
-Type in your school password (no username needed)
-Position one hand over the numbers on your keyboard and the other hand to click Enter or Submit with the mouse.
You can set up your own practice quizzes on thatquiz.org. You do not log in to set up practice quizzes. Just click the area you would like to study. Click on the no. of question, the level, the timing settings you want to test, and click create

4th Grade Math:
SL 10.4 Worksheet to complete with a parent
Dynamath due 5/31
Watch the mathematics videos on blog.

Social Studies: States of the Southwest review due today 5/1.
Test is today 5/1

Science: Magnetism and Electricity Wiki definition due 5/15

Engage: None

Scholastic Book Club ordering. It’s so easy! Click on the link in the Lang. Arts section (right hand side) Set up your own parent username and password and type in the following code for Parkin’s class: GKQKW

The 2012-2013 BCS Yearbook
Did you know…YOU can submit photographs for the yearbook!?  Go to www.replayit.com and register for free with your own unique user id and password.  Choose Birmingham Covington School and upload your photographs!  It's that easy!  There is even a free iPhone app that sends photos from your iPhone!  The Yearbook team would greatly appreciate any pictures you and your parents think are appropriate to include in the yearbook!
