Calling all BCS families! - Our all-school drive will take place on February 6th-February 17th We are partnering with Groves High School to collect personal care items that will be assembled into care packages and delivered to Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic in Pontiac.

The following assignments should be written in your child's planner. Parents, please use this blog to 'cross-check' with your child's planner. They should be completing their planner every day in class.
Homework
3rd graders - Read 20 mins (minimum) each night
4th graders - Read 30 mins (minimum) each night
(Bring in a chapter book to read in class. You will keep your book inside your binder)
Language Arts
Talk about (No need to write anything down for this...just talk about it to someone at home!) Tell a parent about your Would You Rather opinion. What are the three STRONG reasons for your opinion?
-Previous Talk About topics
- Tell about the paragraph that you wrote in your writers' notebook (The Holiday or In My Opinion)
-Tell a parent what you chose to write about for your, Would You Rather paragraph.
- Talk about the research skills that you are practicing in class
-Tell a parent some facts about Thanksgiving that you wrote about in your Writer's Notebook today.
- Summarize the story: Because of Winn-Dixie
Spelling - List #9 is written in your child's planner. The word list has also been assigned to their Powerspelling account (click the Powerspelling link under Language Arts on the right side of this blog) login with username initials and usual password (Learnanimal/number period)
Play all the games on Powerspelling by Sunday 2/5 Test is 2/6 in school.
Math
4th Grd. - H/R 4-7
3rd Grd. - No new H/R (We will check 3-12 tomorrow)
Complete 3 sessions on Xtramath each week. XtraMath sessions usually only last about 5-7 mins, until Mr. C says, "you're done!"
Social Studies

This program is for Birmingham Public School students in fourth and fifth grade and is designed to encourage reading. Students form teams with an adult coach, read from a selected list of five books, and then participate in a contest where they compete with other teams by answering trivia questions based on the books. The Battle will take place at Groves High School on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 10AM
Team registration will open on Monday, February 20, 2023.
Teams are 2 to 8 students and an adult coach.

Baldwin is hosting virtual book talks every Monday at 4:30-5:15pm to talk about each book. Registration for the Battle Book Talks can be found at https://www.baldwinlib.org/calendar/. These are optional enrichment programs to help kids practice answering trivia questions quickly with a large group of kids. These programs are not recorded.

Additionally, Mrs. Rivera has a BCS Choice Hour specifically for Battle on Mondays during Q3. She is not privy to the questions that will be asked during the actual battle, but students will practice each week leading up to the Battle and discuss the books together.
